Recent News - 9/5/06 Organizer with the Hare Campaign getting used to surroundings. Tim Diehl has recently started working as a field organizer with the Hare Campaign. Tim was originally located in a union office on the 7th floor of the Bondi Building, but has recently moved to space in the Sprint store at 238 E. Main St. He can be reached through email or at 343-3050. Tim is originally from Pennsylvania. He grew up near Gettysburg and went to college at Penn State University. He received his bachelors’ degree in political science there before going onto Troy State University for his masters’ degree in international relations. Tim was on active duty in the Air Force for 4 years. Following his discharge he joined the USAF Reserves and was called to duty during Operation Desert Shield/Storm. Following the 9/11 attacks he was activated for duty in Operation Noble Eagle and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Tim has worked most of his career in the industrial appraisal/auction area. His last position was as Vice President of a Los Angeles based firm responsible for its east coast operations. Tim is one of the 10 field organizers that the Hare campaign will be using this fall. He is responsible for Knox, Warren, and Henderson counties. There are 3 organizers in the Quad Cities area, and another in Henry County, so he has plenty of cooperation with those neighboring counties. Tim feels that some of the biggest challenges for his work in the area will be getting name recognition out for Phil. He feels that it may be a challenge to keep many of the independent and republican voters that Lane Evans was able to receive support form. Tim would really like to increase voter turnout in southwest Galesburg and areas of Warren County. An issue that Tim discussed was the changing paradigm of issues that politicians face. He feels that the Republican Party has conceded defeat on economic issues and instead changes the debate to social values issues. He feels that Republicans have been able to convince the public that they are the only party that shares their values which leads them to vote against their economic self interest. Tim feels that Democrats need to “stand up and remind people that we are also for many of the same values and have their economic well being at heart.” Tim feels that getting help from volunteers for ‘get out the vote’ operations is the biggest goal he has for volunteers. But along those lines, he thinks that it will be the biggest service to local candidates. The increased voter turnout will “help get more democrats elected.” Tim is an avid golfer and was disappointed that a golf outing fundraiser had to be cancelled. He really enjoys Galesburg and says his favorite thing about the town is the variety of beautiful old houses. So please get to know our newest Knox County Democrat, Tim Diehl. He would love to hear from you. |
